I Just Got SAVED!  What’s NOW?”

We are so excited you have made Jesus Christ your Savior and Lord!  You have been born-again to a new life in Christ.  The Bible reads:  “If any man be in Christ, he is a new creation.  Old things have passed away and all things have been made new” (2 Corinthians 5:17).

God loves you and He has a wonderful plan for your life (Jeremiah 29;11) and receiving Christ is just the beginning!  Spiritually speaking, you are a brand new spirit baby, even if you are 50 years old!

Have you ever been around a newborn baby?  They have LOTS to learn!  In just a few years’ time, they will learn to crawl, stand, walk, then RUN!  They will learn how to say simple words, then how to make short sentences.  Soon they’ll make longer sentences with bigger words; their vocabulary increases, and before you know it, they never shut up!  And through this process, they need LOTS of help!

Newborn Christians are a lot like natural babies.  As a new Christian, you have lots to learn and need lots of help.  WE ARE HERE FOR YOU!  At Spoken Word Church, our pastors and church family are assigned by God to raise new Christian babies, helping them grow and mature in the things of God.  But guess what?  Christian babies grow at the pace THEY choose!  The more  time you spend pursuing the things of God, the faster you will mature in the Kingdom of God.  The sooner you will step into the love, joy, peace, grace, health and prosperity God has prepared for you!  So let’s get started!

The Holy Bible is the Word of God, written by men from all walks of life as they were inspired by the Holy Spirit of God.  The Bible is a love letter to you from your heavenly Father.  It is vital to your Christian walk that you READ it carefully and meditate on it (think about it, mull it over, “chew” on it).   God commanded Joshua in Joshua 1:8, “Let not this book of the Law depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night that you may observe to do according to all that is written therein. For then you shall make your way prosperous and then you shall have good success.” God has a plan for you to be successful in all you do.  Stay in the Word!  Desire it like you desire a good meal.  Most people feed their bodies three meals and a few snacks every day.  Ask God to give you a hunger for His Word, and feed your baby spirit often throughout the day!

Where do I start reading? The Bible is not chronological, meaning it doesn’t tell a story starting with Genesis 1:1 and ending in Revelation 22:21.  Each book is written by various authors at various times in history.  The Old Testament (Genesis to Malachi) is written for our example, and encompasses God’s Old Covenant under the Law of Moses.  The New Testament (Matthew to John) tells of Jesus birth and life on earth, while Acts to Revelation are letters written mostly by Apostle Paul to the Church of Jesus Christ, those born again believers who received Christ after His resurrection.  Since these letters are written specifically to us, they are great resources for learning who you are in Christ, what Christ did on your behalf, and how to live your life to please our heavenly Father.  Spend most of your study time in these books and you will grow quickly!  Not all Holy Bibles read the same.  Start out with a King James Version (KJV) or a New King James Version (NKJV) or the New American Standard (NAS).

Realize the Bible is not just a book of “Bible stories”.  The Word of God is alive and it is powerful (Hebrews 4:12).  It is life to you and health to your flesh (Proverbs 4:22).  But it can only be to you what you believe it to be.  To receive the benefits of the Word of God you must make a quality decision to believe it is the living Word of God and it is true from cover to cover.  Believing is a decision, not a feeling or a logical conclusion. There will be things you don’t understand at first, and it may even seem contradictory in some places, but you must decide you will believe it as the infallible Word of God and as truth until you receive understanding.  If you do this, you will find God quick to honor His Word on your behalf, every time.

Father God wanted to restore His lost earthly family so much, He sent His only Son Jesus to die on the cross that we might be born again and have fellowship with Him!  When you made Jesus Lord of your life, you became a child of God – that is relationship: Father/child.  Now that you are part of the family, it is time to develop fellowship with your Father.  He wants you to KNOW HIM, the same way you know a close friend, your spouse, or parent.  He delights in spending time with you!  Many times we pray for things we want or need, and prayer is good!  When you pray to the Father in the Name of Jesus, He promises to answer!  But how many of us would enjoy someone who only wants to talk with us when they want or need something from us?  It is vital in this hour that we develop such a close communion with the Father that we recognize His voice and respond immediately.  If you will quiet yourself before Him and call on Him, He will answer you.  (Jeremiah 33:3 “Call unto Me and I will answer thee and show you great and mighty things.  .”)  He is waiting for you!  “Draw near to me and I will draw near to you.” (James 4:8)

John the Baptist said talking about Jesus,  “And when He comes He shall baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire.” (Luke 3:16)   After His resurrection, Jesus told His disciples to go to Jerusalem and wait for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, when they would receive POWER from on high to be witnesses for Him.  The disciples were obedient and they received POWER and became mighty witnesses turning the world upside down with their doctrine!  (Acts 1:8, 2:1-4). The Holy Spirit is a person, the third person of the Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit).  He is the One who remains on the earth today, residing in those who are born again.  The baptism of the Holy Spirit is when the anointing of the Holy Spirit comes upon you to give you power.  The Bible tells us the Holy Spirit is your Helper, Teacher, Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor, Standby.  Jesus talks a lot about the Holy Spirit in John, Chapters 14-16.  He says the Holy Spirit will lead and guide us, show us things to come, and reveal to us hidden things.  Read the book of Acts and see how the disciples received the Holy Spirit just as Jesus told them they would, and how the Holy Spirit helped them.  He imparts a supernatural prayer language, called tongues, to every believer who is baptized.  This heavenly language will help you pray out the perfect plan of God for your life; it will help you pray for people and situations when you don’t know how to pray or what to pray; it will build you up on your most holy faith.  The Holy Spirit is wonderful!

How do you receive the baptism in the Holy Spirit? The Bible says, “Ask and you shall receive!”   Pray and ask Jesus to baptize YOU in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues.  He will!   Feel free to contact us if you have questions, or come to a service and we will pray with you.

It is very, very important that you connect with a good New Testament Church.  Locate a church that believes the Bible is the Word of God.  We believe Jesus Christ is the only way to Heaven.  We believe Jesus came to earth to save us, died on the cross for us, went to hell and paid the price for our sins, and God raised Him from the grave victorious over death, hell and the grave.  He is seated at the right hand of God today!  He took stripes on His back to provide health for all mankind.  He sent the Holy Spirit to fill us, empowering us to be witnesses, and impart a prayer language to us that isn’t for speaking to men, but speaking to God.  He also imparts supernatural gifts to you that demonstrate His love and power to the world.  A New Testament church will be a church of the Word of God and the Spirit of God.  It will boldly preach and teach the Word while allowing the Holy Spirit to flow in every service, bringing glory and honor to the Father, while bringing joy, peace, healing, and deliverance – a touch from God!

Attend church regularly.  Be faithful in attendance, and give financially.  Ask the Holy Spirit to help you have a teachable spirit and to walk in the love of God with others.  Submit yourself the pastor and purpose to be a blessing him/her.  Want to grow up quickly in the things of God?  Don’t miss a service!  Come ready to receive, and ready to give.

Recognize when you were born again, God imparted to you gifts and a call, a supernatural supply within you by the Holy Spirit that other people need!  Start by sharing your gifts in your local church.  As you are faithful in the small things, God will bring increase and promotion.  Everyone in the body of Christ is important!  Whether you serve the church by cleaning toilets, serving in the nursery, greeting at the door, calling those who missed service, playing an instrument or singing on the worship team, or preaching the sermon, it isn’t your position in the body, but your obedience, heart attitude, and faithfulness that counts.  Purpose to be the best at your assignment, whatever it is.  The Bible says “whatever your hand finds to do, do it heartily, as unto the Lord.”  You are not serving man, but serving God.  Do it well and with joy!

Water baptism is an outward sign of an inward change.  It is your testimony that you have received Jesus as your Savior and Lord and you intend to live your life for Him.  Water baptism can be held in a church baptismal pool, a swimming pool, a lake or river.  Anywhere there is water!  Water baptism is symbolic of the death, burial, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.  In being baptized, you are identifying with His work of redemption.  You are crucified with Christ (submerged in water) and then raise from the dead with Him as you are raised from the water in newness of life.  Water baptism does not assure your salvation.  Only believing in your heart that Christ rose from the dead and confessing with your mouth “He is my Lord” assures your eternal life.

Jesus told Peter, a fisherman by trade, that He would make him a fisher of men.  One of the last things Jesus said to His disciples before He ascended to Heaven after His resurrection was  to “Go ye into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature.” (Mark 16:15).  Paul writes to the church that every believer has a ministry: the ministry of reconciliation.  Letting the world know God is not mad at them, but He loves them and wants them to receive His free gift, eternal life and salvation through Jesus Christ His Son.  How will they know without a preacher?  You may not be called to be a pastor or evangelist, but you ARE called to share the Gospel with every creature.  Maybe you don’t know what to say.  Share what you DO know.  What did Jesus do for YOU when you accepted Christ?  He rescued you from the power of darkness – maybe addiction, depression, a bad situation or circumstance.  He brought you into His marvelous light.  Did He give you peace?  Joy?  Has He healed your body or mind?  Blessed you with finances?  Given you children, a spouse, parents who love you?  Whatever Jesus did for you, share that with someone else and watch what God does.

At least invite friends, family and coworkers to church.  In that atmosphere the Holy Spirit can begin to work on their hearts and help them to receive Christ as their Lord.  They will be just like you – SO GLAD someone shared Jesus with them.  Someone brought them to church.  You will change their life here and lead them to enjoy eternal life!  And great will be your reward in Heaven!
